Medical Oncology

Medical Oncology is the science of treating and curing cancer with anticancer drugs. These drugs act on the cancer cells to either kill them directly or indirectly. A combined treatment using anticancer drugs along with surgery and/or radiotherapy achieves a greater therapeutic effect.

The aim of this department is to provide scientific, cost effective care to cancer patients. The excellent radiological and imaging services along with nuclear medicine services altogether strengthen the diagnostic as well as supporting care. It is efficiently supported by the Pathology department which is equipped with immune-histochemistry and advanced cytological studies.

Surgical Oncology

This is a branch of surgery which focuses on the surgical management of cancer. Surgery is the oldest known treatment for cancer. If a cancer has not metastasized, it is possible to completely cure a patient by surgically removing the cancer from the body. Surgery remains the best modality, either by itself or in combination with adjuvant treatments in solid tumors.

Radiation Oncology

Radiotherapy plays a very important role in curing early stage cancer and in relieving symptoms and prolonging life for patients with advanced cancers. In Radiotherapy, high energy ionizing radiation beams are used to remove cancer cells and stop them from growing and dividing. Like surgery, radiation therapy is a very effective local treatment, when executed scientifically, radiation causes lethal damage to cancer cells and effects on normal cells are very minimal.
